Development and progress

"cosmic echoes"
"Cosmic Echoes" A3 Canvas.

“Cosmic Echoes” explores the fragility of heart and the overwhelming force of emotions through a celestial metaphor. The mountain, representing a part of the heart, is slowly overtaken by vines entangled with beads emotions creeping in, contaminating and reshaping it, reflecting emotions spread and take hold overtimes. At the center, fragmented heart pieces float in an irregular, circulars shaped, showing a heart breaking apart and nearly fully consumed by emotions, symbolizing a heart give in to weights of emotions.
The background swirls like the Milky Way, interwoven with koru inspired spirals. While the koru traditionally represents renewal and growth, here it twists into an endless cycle of pain, reflecting healing and growth often comes through suffering. The red yarn jar, another pieces heart, filled with nails symbolize trauma, heartbreak, and all the burdens carried along the way, spilled into the cosmic abyss, torturing the fractured heart, illustrate how past wounds continue to affect present. The red yarn stretching across the piece mimics blood vessels, binding these broken hearts together, while the scattered beads symbolize emotions emotions no longer contained and unraveling set loose endlessly.
This piece captures the experience of heartbreaks and the lasting pain that follows, spreading and scattered endlessly in the void of cosmic like echoes, constantly, uncontrollable, and impossible to ignore.

Reflection

What Have I Learned in This Module?

I gained a deeper understanding of design elements like line, size, space, color, value, and texture, as well as Gestalt principles that shape perception. I also learned how contrast, emphasis, balance, repetition, movement, and unity strengthen a composition. Analyzing African Mephisto by Pacita Abad helped me appreciate how textures and colors to tell a story.

What Did I Enjoy the Most?

Creating Cosmic Echoes was the most exciting part for me. I loved experimenting with textures, layering different materials, and using shapes to express emotions. Playing around with yarn and beads gave the piece a deeper meaning, and I enjoyed seeing it come together.

What Did I Not Enjoy the Most?

The research and writing process felt more challenging than the hands on tasks. While essential for refining ideas, structuring my thoughts in a formal way was sometimes felt limited. However, it improved my ability to explain ideas and making sense of the creative process.

What have I learnt about myself through this module?

I discovered that emotion and storytelling are the mains to my design approach. I'm drawn to layered, textured compositions that invite people to look deeper.

What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?

I have become more intentional in applying design principles, refining my technical skills along the way.

What Are My Aspirations?

I aim to refine my design skills, explore new materials, and integrate expressive elements into my fashion and textile work. My goal is to create pieces that evoke emotions, tell meaningful stories, and leave a lasting impact.
