Week 11
This week, we focused on making and tracing Test Fit 1 for our final project. Using our drafted patterns, we transferred them onto calico to check the fit and construction. After assembling the test shirt, I quickly realized it was too small, especially in key areas like the shoulders, sleeve and chest. While it was frustrating, it was a valuable lesson in the importance of precise measurements and allowances. Ms. Melina stepped in to help me reconstruct the pattern, and guided me through adjustments to ensure the shirt would fit properly. She explained how to add ease in specific areas without compromising the overall design. After revising the pattern, I retraced and reassembled Test Fit 1. This time, the Test Fit was much better, and it was a challenging week!
This week, I finally completed the pattern for Look 1. Building on the progress from last week, I focused on finalizing all the details to ensure the pattern was accurate and ready for construction. Ms. Melina continued to guide me through the process, helping me double check measurements and ensure every piece aligned perfectly. Adjustments were made to refine the fit, such as tweaking the darts and seam lines to better match the design. The collar and sleeves also required some extra attention to ensure they would integrate seamlessly with the bodice. Now that the pattern for Look 1 is complete, I’m excited to move on to the next stage: cutting the fabric and starting the construction process.
