This week is creating fabric manipulation techniques and worked on creating woven fabric samples for Test Feed 1 The process was both challenging and rewarding, as it required precision, creativity, and patience. I chose weaving as my technique, inspired by its intricate patterns and textural possibilities.
Using strips of fabric, I carefully weave them together to create a unique design. The key was to maintain consistent tension and alignment throughout the process, which was trickier than I expected. The weaving process took time, but it was fascinating to see how widths of fabric strips could transform a simple concept into something visually dynamic.
This week was intense as I began cutting the actual fabric for Look 1 and Look 2. Despite traveling back to JB to celebrate Christmas with my family, I stayed determined to keep working and used my own sewing machine while I was there.
When I returned, time was tight, and finding an available sewing machine in class became a struggle. To keep up with the workload, I decided to buy my own sewing machine. From there, the challenges only grew Look 1’s thread kept breaking, and I had to redo it five times. Look 2 faced the same issue, forcing me to repeat the process multiple times.
After four sleepless days of problem-solving and perseverance, both looks were finally completed. Though they turned out a bit messy, I’m proud of what I accomplished under the circumstances. This week taught me resilience and the importance of pushing through obstacles!
The past weeks have been intense but incredibly rewarding. From drafting my first patterns to sewing a basic shirt and completing Look 1 and Look 2, each step has challenged me in different ways. Whether it was dealing with misaligned seams, breaking threads, or sleepless nights, every obstacle taught me patience, problem-solving, and resilience. Learning techniques like fabric manipulation and collar drafting pushed me creatively, while balancing deadlines taught me the importance of time management. One of the highlights was the guidance and support from Ms. Melina. This experience showed me that progress matters more than perfection. Every mistake became a lesson, and every success felt like a step forward. I’m proud of how much I’ve grown and excited to take on new challenges in the journey ahead!
